Choosing Images for Your Website and Social Media

Successful business owners know words and images work together to engage customers and increase brand loyalty. Both must work together to create positive client relations, but most business owners struggle with one or the other. If your content expresses your company culture and vision, your images need to do the same. Here are a few things to consider when choosing images for your business website, digital marketing collateral, or social media presence.

Be Inclusive

Representation is important and you can easily alienate some potential customers if they cannot “see” themselves in your digital imagery. Consider the suburban woman looking to join a yoga studio after putting on extra weight due to pregnancy. When she scrolls through a local yoga studio website and only sees very skinny women practicing yoga, she is likely to think she would not fit in there. When choosing images, select ones that represent different body shapes, skin colors, ethnicities, and genders that look like the customers who use your services or purchase your products.

Be Stock Image Savvy

Stock images are readily available for purchase, which can make finding suitable photos as easy as an account set up or a few clicks. However, be sure the images you choose are not too artificial looking. Select images that showcase people or things that don’t look too staged or retouched.

Shoot Your Own…Carefully

You can also rely on images you take yourself, especially for your social media feed. Thanks to excellent smartphone technology and easily accessible filters, we all have the opportunity to take some great candid photos of happenings around your office. Just be sure you are taking photos that are well lit and look great, avoiding photos that contain too many subjects or look too busy.

Your website, digital advertising, and social media feed should contain images that complement your content and business mission, not overshadow it. Wondering if your website could use a little work? Give our team a call. We can make your business shine in all your digital marketing efforts.
